Between studying at Parsons, modeling, working in event planning and PR, and going on epic bike rides, Miriam Feldman is one hard-to-pin-down lady. However, we were lucky enough to snag her to model for Full Flower during her summer break. A lovely mix of fierce and feminine and a supporter of sustainable fashion, Miriam made an apt muse for our summer spread. And summer also happens to be her favorite season.
Naturally, we've been getting a lot of "who's that girl?" questions about Miriam, so we're quenching your curiosity with few fun facts about her below. Read on for this Brooklyn-based babe's favorite everything -- plus the one shoe she'd never wear.
Hometown: Woodcliff Lake, N.J., but both of my parents are immigrants from the former USSR, so I'm sort of a strange foreign hybrid. I mostly do American things, but I also do things like keep all my cooking oils in a shoebox lid.
Current Stomping Grounds: Bushwick, Brooklyn
Day Job: I'm a full-time student at Parsons earning my M.A. in Fashion Studies, but I also dabble in freelance fashion and event PR.
Dream Job: I'd love to do something along the lines of what Amy Poehler does, but more realistically I'd like to [write] for a fashion or travel magazine.
Oldest Item of Clothing: I have a bathing suit my mom owned in the '70's that fits me perfectly. It's also one of my most treasured [garments].
Designer Love: My favorite designer is Jessica Lapidos. Her ethos revolves around fluid gender and sustainably-made garments -- two things I'm extremely passionate about. Her line Tilly and William is totally ahead of its time, aesthetically and morally beautiful, and totally worth checking out.
Thumbs-down Fashion Trend: I'm not sure if it's a trend at this point because it's become such a staple in most women's closets, but I'm going to have to say the stiletto. It's totally uncomfortable and unreasonable for an active human to try to function in. I'm all about comfort -- the day fancy slippers become acceptable footwear is a day I think feminism will have triumphed.
Thumbs-up Fashion Trend: High-waisted everything -- shorts, pants, bathing suits. What can I say? I'm a fiend for tucking my shirts into my pants.
To Journal or Not to Journal: With my 11th grade Xanga as a testament - I'm all about the journal. I'm also a writer, so I'm all about getting my ideas out on paper.
Morning vs. Night: I can't think of a single good story that starts, "I woke up super early and the craziest thing happened..." so I'm going to have to say night. I'm all about the story and the experience.
Fashion Shoot Faves: I love and believe in The Stylish Kind's mission and message, so the best part of the experience was how honored and lucky I felt to be a part of it. Plus the team was really talented and wonderful, so it was a total pleasure the entire time. Besides that, Mary Meyer in Bushwick is one of my all-time favorite designers, so it was really amazing to be able to model some of her spring '14 pieces.
Best Things About Summer: I can't get enough of the outdoors, so the warm weather allows me to get out on my bike, go for walks, get to the beach, and sleep with the windows open -- it's so much better for my spirit. Plus my summer wardrobe is so much better than my winter one, when I only wear my biggest, ugliest sweater for weeks at a time.
Secret Crush: Amy Poehler. No one makes me laugh more than she does --there's nothing more attractive than someone who can make you laugh.
Weekend Project: My boyfriend just moved in [together] so we've been spending our weekends thrifting for furniture and art, shopping for plants, and trying to compromise on our space. It's been really nice to spend quality time together learning more about eachother's tastes.
